Hi foxys! Welcome to a new DIY! This time we are making a tote bag from used jeans. I don’t know about you but I have a lot of jeans that I don’t wear anymore and I said that it is time to reuse them. Let’s get started
What you’ll need is:
- old jeans
- jeans thread
- ruler
- scissor
- pins
- sewing machine
Here is the pattern of the bag
I made two squares of 45 cm but you can do it smaller or bigger depending of your jeans. Also you will have to make the strips. I made mine 154 cm long and 4 cm wide (you should make it 8 cm wide so you can fold it)
Making off
Step 1: I used the bottom of an old pair of jeans. I’ve cut opened the inside of the seam and made two squares. I also used the original hem as the top edge of my bag.
Step 2: Once you have your two squares, measure and mark 7.5 cm square at the bottom corners of both front and back and cut the squares.
Step 3: Get the pocket and double fold the top edge 1cm and sew.
Step 4: Place and pin the pocket onto the front piece, so it’s centered in the middle about 2.5 cm in from the corners and sew.
Step 5: Fold and press the strips and sew only the short edge. For the long edge you can sew it along with the front and back of the bag or you can measure the hight of the bag and star sewing from the
Step 6: Sew the strips on the front and also on the back. Make sure that on the front you will cover the pocket raw edge and leave 1 cm at the edge
Step 7: Place the front and back right sides together and sew the side seams and bottom edge
Step 8: Because I’m not adding a liner I added a bias tape to finish the raw edge, or you can serge it.
Step 9: Fold the bottom corners together, so the bottom seam and side seam meet. Pin the bias tape and sew. Repeat for the other side as well.
